The Australian Premier league will be played at Pine Rivers Memorial Bowls Club from Tuesday 19th till Friday 22nd of November. The concept was launched in Melbourne at the Melbourne Windsor Bowls Club last week by Mick Malloy of Crackerjack fame in front of the top players and officials. Mick will also be in attendance during the competition and will be doing has radio show from the venue
Six teams will contest the event those being , Sydney Lions Steve Glasson, Karen Murphy, Aron Sherriff and Gary Willis, Perth Suns Clive Adams, Brett Wilkie, Jeremy Henry and Wayne Turley. Melbourne Roys, Dylan Fisher Matthew Flapper, Graeme Archer and Stephen Milstead, Adelaide Endurance Mark Haines, Scott Thulborn, Wayne Rudeiger and Faye Luke, New Zealand Blackjacks ,Jo Edwards, Ali Forsyth, Tony Grantham and Dave Edwards, Brisbane Gold Mark Casey, Kelvin Kerkow, Robbie Wild and Alex Murtagh as you can see there are some great bowlers amongst these teams with a lot of other top players missing out. I am sure we will see some excellent bowls as the players vie for the huge $in prize money
The format 2 sets of 5 ends three bowl pairs with a one end tie breaker if the score is a set apiece. Players must nominate that they intend to kill an end, if they do it will be replayed if not and the jack goes dead it will be placed in the ditch in the centre of the rink. Players will play to a shot clock, they have 30 seconds to deliver their bowl players can call a power play before an end is played giving them double points if they win the end. The jack will be placed and not rolled. The coach can call on the super sub to play one bowl on any end during the game The format will be fast and entertaining and hopefully do for bowls what 20/20 has done for cricket, there will be plenty of entertainment and action during the games and will be great to watch.
Teams will play 3 games a day at 1pm, 2.45pm and the night games on the Village Foundation Arena at 5pm, 6.30pm and 8pm. The night games will be televised live on Fox Sports every night. The finals are being played on the Friday night with semi finals at 6.30pm and the Grand Final at 8pm with presentations after the game.
